Default Excessive engine drag/deceleration

Hello, new to the site. I have a 92 SC400 bought used 4 years ago...love it like it was my own child. Problem i have is, when i let go of the pedal, the speed drops significantly like my brakes are being applied lightly. There is no feeling of freewheeling action. Sort of like my car just passing through a large puddle. Basically, my car uses up a lot of gas. I am concerned about excessive engine use, and would like to know if this is an inherent problem with SCs. Thanks.
