Default 1uz swap into sc300 5spd

i was thinking that now that their is an adaptor plate for the 1uz that it would be a pretty unique and relatively cheap swap into a sc3 5spd, say i get a 1uz for 400, adaptor plate and steel flywheel for 500, so far thats 900, assuming i got the 1uz out of an sc, i could use the harness and everything, it sounds like a good idea to me all opinions welcome

I like that idea! I have been considering putting a v8 in my 5 speed as well. I am thinking about a 2uz bottom end with a 1uz top end. With some cams and other light mods the car would be a blast!

op, I also considered this upgrade and run headers and straight pipes.. that'd be sweet!! ... If you can get ur hands on a 98 and up v8, that's a 4.0L 290 HP VVTI upgrade. And since your in CALI, it's wayyyyy easier to keep it street legal.. I dont think you even need to get it bar'd since the v8 was a factory option--compared to running na-t or a jdm gte engine.. gl getting that bar'd or when it comes to getting smogged..

PS.. this was not intended as a the v8 is greater than the gte or na-t **** like that but rather a good option for those in cali who dont wanna bother with californias damn engine swap and all their damn regulations pertaining to engine modifications

If you are in Cali and you want to put a V8 engine into a Sc300 which originally came with a inline 6, you most certainly need to get it BARed.
I read the regs last week. It's not considered a parts change since it's a different engine series. and vvti v8's aren't cheap like the 92-97's.

I can tell you having owned a sc400 for 6 years that I wished I would have got a sc300/5sp the first time and went na-t with it.

But one day I'll swap to 6 speed with a built 1uz and a whipple supercharger.

Unless I buy a vette, a turbo m3, or a Supra first.

it would probly be possible to hit 300whp with a vvti 1uz with only a few mods and have the sound of a v8 with stick, it would be nice and now is possible, but yes na-t is the easiest and most cost effective and will make the most power

Intake, Headers, Exhaust, Tune will probably put you at 300whp or more. That would be alot of fun and if you get a 2uz bottom end and cams you could probably touch 400whp where your W58 might last a week

Thanks for clarifying.. i could have sworn i read that factory options did not have to get bar'ed but it is a different engine series

I'd love to do the swap, I had a boosted SC already and now i'd like something more just for cruising, but the 1uzfe sounds so good.

I'd get a 400 and do a manual swap, but i have a black interior 5spd with fresh paint so i'd rather keep my chasis.. The only downside in my opinion is I wouldn't be happy unless i could do the 98+ vvti, but then the cost & headache would be way more then just boosting the car..
I dunno you can get older 1uz motorsets dirt cheap, i just don't think it'd be worth it for barley gaining any power.

Go to http://www.quantum-auto.com/ and ask some questions on the forum. These guys no their stuff and make the kits. One of them has a 92 SC400 with a W58 swap and the other has MK3 Supra with 1UZ swap into his stock W58.

if i swapped in a vvti 1uz or 3uz it would be pretty fast, i would change to a litle bit higher gears and it would be a fast daily driver, of course this would not be cost effective, as i would make lots more power with the 2j for the same price, but just having a 300hp v8 with a 5spd sounds good though i would be out of luck if i wanted to boost cause i know the 1uz vvti bottom end is weak from what i have heard and read

Yeah, the VVTI is not a popular choice for boost. If you simply wanted a 1UZ with a 5sp,go with a pre-98 motor.

I think it would be easier to start off with a 98+ sc400, then swap in a 5 speed. Instead of trying to turn a 300 into a 400. I have a 98 ls400 with vvti, and love it. Having a 5 speed to match would be the ****.

I definetly agree, I'd hate to start from scratch again though buying another SC.
