Need some suggestions - Turbo and Tuning

I'm picking up a 92 SC w/ a 1JZ swap already done and it was running flawlessly but one of the turbo's is going out. The guy i'm buying it for has everything for a big turbo upgrade except the turbo and something to tune with. So I just want to get some suggestions from you guys on what route to take, I have about 3000$ to spend to finish the build.

1. What turbo to go with the guy i'm getting it from was going to do a T61 ball bearing the manifold he has is a T4 flange and the downpipe is a V-band. Any suggestions there?

2. What to tune with? I've seen people use MAP ECU and have good results as well as E-Manage ultimate, I was thinking about going AEM but it seems that would be really expenisive considering the unit new is 1600$ and it doesn't plug right up according to the AEM forums. My power goals are around 450-500whp on pump gas.

Thanks for the help guys hopefully this isn't too noob of a question.

Runt I would go with map ecu 2, it's just as good as aem, and most people on the supraforums are having success with it. I've seen most 1jz people run ultimate also. Are you going to have dinosaur or mvp tune it?

A T61 on a 2.5L with pump gas is going to struggle to do 450+whp.

To make that much power with a T61, you would have to run more boost than pump gas would safely maintain (>18psi). Making that much boost, you would be losing thermal efficiency with that size of turbo.

To make 450+ with a T61, aggressive timing with race gas or E85 (available at the pumps all over out here in corn country) would be the ticket.

That being said, a T61 @ 15-18psi would still run your stock twins into the ground...easily. I would temper the goal for your target range by ~75hp and you should be good to go. 375-425whp would be an aggressive, yet achievable goal.
