Power steering lost, battery light on
I heard a loud thud while driving down the highway yesterday and figured I hit a rock. This sound was followed by a sound like something falling from the car (I felt a slight vibration). Shortly thereafter the battery light came on intermittenly. When I pulled in my driveway I could here a weird sound from under the car like I was dragging something. Then this morning, after starting the car, the battery light was still on and the power steering was gone.
Looking under the car I see that the plastic panel under the engine is half torn and almost touching the ground. (Possibly causing the scraping sound) I checked the power steering fluid and it is low. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Battery light is on because the ALT isnt charging. The serpentine belt tensioner or the crank pulley took a dump. Serp belt tensioner, easy to replace, the harmonic dampner would be very easy for a shop to do.
It would be better if you knew what failed before taking it in though, so have a look and tell us what broke. Take a picture or two of the front of the motor if your not sure whats up.
Driving on battery alone won't last long, and will kill the battery for good probably.
