Default go for it! make a turbo kit

sounds like someone is actually listening to v8 turbo kit. i think it would be nice if you can find a room for single T series turbo. this way people can bolt on bigger T series turbo if 500rwhp is not enough. i have few questions regarding turbo kit.

1. fuel system?
2. tuning?
3. is it going to be intercooled kit?

it would be nice to have twin or single turbo SC400 kit for 5-6G.

Called E.L. Prototypes re: TT kit, they said they would call me back soon as they were off the phone, but never called of course. Oh well.

I thought Area 51 had a supercharger, not a turbo kit?

I thought someone said they'd contact Area 51 and see if they'd fabricate a turbo kit for our car. No??...

OK, just had a very long conversation with Eric at E.L. Prototypes (elprototypes.com). No problem to do a 1UZ twin turbo conversion, and he can do it for reasonable cash, and horsepower numbers will be impressive. Before I continue, none of this is set in stone. If any of you are looking to make your boosted dreams come true, they need someone to bring their car there (SC4, LS4, GS4) so they can mock up a kit and fabricate the plumbing and manifolds. The manifolds will be log-style, short runner, stainless steel, fully braced and reinforced, stainless flanges. It may be necessary to pull the motor off the mounts to install the manifolds, not sure yet, but this is the reason for the HD construction, don't want to have to do it again. Still working out the math on what turbos would be best, but we both agreed, considering space restrictions, spool qualities, availability, price, etc, etc, a pair of Garrett GT25's or probably maxed out T28s with internal wastegates will probably be the way to go (Bean, wipe that goofy grin off your face) with T3-style 60 or 70 compressor, and T28 housing. The turbos would be down low on the sides of the block, not far from the oil pan rails. As far as what kind of power, E.L.'s Taco turbo kit increases output by 67% with only 8lbs on a bone-stock 2.4 , 10.5:1 compression, with no intercooler, I am told to look for similar gains on a 1UZ, so that would be 400+rwhp, with a ton of potential past that. Once the initial conversion is done, a kit will be no problem, ballpark figures (again, estimated) will be $6000-6300 including both manifolds, front-mount intercooler, fuel pump and regulator and any other necessary fuel system components, piping, fittings, etc. They have the capability to reprogram the ECU on basically any OBDI car, so the engine management issues will be worked out as necessary. They are ready to begin, all we need now is someone with a 4.0 car that has another car to use for a month or two, the shop is in CA, otherwise my SC would be there already. Feel free to ask me any questions, i'm trying as hard as I can to make this happen for all you V8 guys.

Here is their info:

Lex, where in California? I have an SC400 sitting in my garage not in use for God knows how long. Six months maybe? The thing is I don't have $6300 on hand to pay for it.

So what about OBDII engine management? All the GS400s are OBDII....and so are all the post '96 cars. Also, what about the VVTi engines same pieces as far as this is concerned?

Thumbs up

Too bad we didn't know about this a month or two ago, if so, I would have drove to CA and dropped off my car for the cause Well, if nothing bad happens (like getting denied for a student loan, unlikely) until a kit is made, I'm in.

A few questions, is that price with install? After a kit is developed, about how long do they need the car for the install? That's all I can think of for now... I'm still rather excited

Nick

Thanks for grabbing that info!!! "Much props!"

I have the money to do this, and I'll talk to ELP to see if we can work out a deal.

Sounds like the elp shop has a good idea of what will work;I know the factory auto will be good for 450hp,and the stock ignition is so retarded down low, anyways, that it might work the way it is.
The TRD blower setup for the Tacoma trucks uses the stock timing with 6psi,so who knows, maybe some custom, thicker head gaskets,(or not)?
I'd be afraid that the stock intake manifold would start to do funny things to certain cylinders at higher boost levels anyways, with the TB off to one side like it is.
Some larger injectors, and a re-tune of everything would keep it simple, that's for sure.
Lets see, what could you waste on with say,430hp?
If the same companies are making convertors for Camaros,as are TT Supras, then why the difference in lifespan/duty?
I'll bet that with some power in front of it,the stock convertor will work fine with 450hp or less.My car launches good enough with just a chip now to make tires break loose,so unless I start running 10" slicks and racing Camaros, that convertor can hang.

That's not a problem, they are all tuned length, and the air intake is actually more regular when under boost.
