OEM vs aftermarket gaskets?

So... some people say to stay OEM and some say to go get whatever brand they know or like. If I am going to boost my car I know I need the 1.3mm head gasket from the GTE but...... I don't want to keep taking off my head to replace my head gasket. So what makes multi layer metal gaskets from brand1 to brand2?

Sooo... what makes you think you will have to keep taking off the head to replace the HG if you go OEM TT?

Well not the OEM one but lets say the XSpower complete kit vs some other brand.

Well for one it's thickness, then you start lookin at good ones like Cometic MLS, (multi layered steel), any MLS really, which are all usually thicker than OEM. Do a leakdown test on your motor, see what kind of condition it's in, fix the minor leaks here and there. Get yourself a good cometic MLS HG, depending on how much you want to run on stock block get upwards up 2.0mm give or take. Install it with some ARP hardware, and turn up the boost.

So going with the XSpower MLS or going with ABC MLS gasket isn't a big difference? as long as both are the same thickness?

I personally prefer using OEM or EQUIVALENT (big emphasis on equivalent) products. If you are going to push some more boost in the future though get a metal head like the one in the XS power kit.
