If you use a MK3 W58, you would need a custom driveshaft, a possible shifter extension, custom cross-member/mount, and a mechanical to electronic speedometer conversion. Not worth the headache.

You could do it in a day, but it'd be a very long day. Best to give yourself at least a weekend, or even better yet, a week.

Thanks. i have access to a lift tools and all.. but yea i didn't want it to be to long to do it because i am in the military and i only go home for certain amount of days. so i figured if 2 days max on this swap.
so i wont need to tune my ECU or anything?

Well, a tune benefits the 1UZ greatly as they run very rich stock, but it's not necessary (at least from what I'm aware of).

Here's the swap article on Quantum Auto.

Nope, that thick spacer is included in the quantum kit to take the place of those smaller spacers. We measured according to what the quarter master instruction sheet dictates and it came to within an eighth of a millimeter in difference. Do your own measurements if you want to make sure but otherwise the spacer from quantum auto is pretty much spot on.

is this true? i have at my disposal a complete front and rear mk3 driveshaft, my sc400 drive shaft, a sc300 rear half, and can also get a NA mk4 5spd rear section. does anyone know of any mix or match that will work? not worried about where the carrier bearing/crossmember land cuz i can make a one custom to bolt into stock location.

any word on the driveshaft he used? obviously the mkiii w58 front half including carrier bearing, then did he use a sc300 MT rear section? or a sc300 auto rear half requiring getting the 2 shafts mated together at the u-joint?

Would the w58 be applicable to the 97 models as well? I have read here that it will not work for the 98+
