Question Engine Dies While Driving And While Idioling

(yes i have searched the threads and found nothing) It all started when I was driving the car home from work one day going about 80mph with the traffice, then all of the sudden the car just shuts down. I have to pull off the road quickly. Once to the side, I had power and I would try to start the car it is started up fine. But it would not stay idoled for very long. Oddly enough I took the key completely out and it started right back up with no problems. It has done that to me again as well. I thought it may have been the gas grade, so I have made sure I am always using premium with fuel cleaner as well. But that doesn't seem to help.

This morning, the car was sitting at idol while I was dropping my son off at daycare. It just died again. I would crank but instantly die again. I tried the method of taking the key complete out of the ignition, like I have before, but still wouldn't stay cranked.

After a few minutes I cranked up fine...

Where do I even start at to find a cause/problem that needs to be fixed? Has this happened to anyone else? I have a 92 sc400 with only 80,000 miles on it. It has been garage kept when not in used and serviced regularly.

Actually there are plenty posts on this phantom problem, ignition coils seem to be one of the main causes.

Its cool, go into the performance/maintenance section and use your search button to find posts on the ignition coils

had a problem like this acouple days ago but my car would only die while idleing. i rushed putting parts back together and didnt tighten the battery terminals snug. take some sandpaper to your battery terminals especially the negative. start from there sense its cheaper then a ignition coil

I have replaced the Ignition coil on the top of the engine. I noticed there must be a second one on the side? do you take the whole bracket off?

So far chaging out my ingnition coil hasn't helped.

So you've changed both of the ignition coils? With what OEM, A/M, used???

to steal a quote from Tommy Boy "Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me."

Okay, now the car is dying on me again. WTF, do start looking at fuel lines, pumps, filters, etc? The problem did not get fixed with ignition coils..

Maybe fuel pump ecu or the main ecu. Try the fuel pump ecu bypass first.
