Default SC300 Oil Capacity - Technical Service Bulletin

Just wanted to share this with everyone especially the 92-93 SC300 owners.
It seems that I should have been filling with 4.5q instead of the 5.5q that I normally use. The apparent overfilling, over a span of ~15k miles, could explain some of the wet components on the under body.

Edit: Production date should be on the driver's side door, thanks tularisgp.

Hope some of you can find this information useful.

Here is the TSB from '94:

PRODUCT GENERAL INFORMATION
PG94-003
SEPTEMBER 30, 1994
SC 300

Title:
ENGINE OIL CAPACITY (REVISED)

The information provides new engine oil quantity recommendations for the SC 300.

Edit: Found it on the door haha.

My car was produced 09/92. I'm going to use 4.5-4.75q on my next oil change which is coming up soon.

Does this mean using the dipstick is pointless? Would you mind posting the whole document, thanks.

Yup this is from Alldata. If you go into the fluid capacities section on the front page all it says is to fill with 5.5q. They may have been assuming that my 93 sc300 was produced in 93. If you dig further into the fluids section and use the TSB link on the right side, you can find this information.

Of course it is always a good idea to check the level from the dipstick. I'm not saying otherwise.

My last 5.5q oil change was a couple thousand miles ago. I just checked the dipstick the other day and the level was a tad above the High/Low midpoint. For the next change I'll start off with 4.5q and add accordingly...

ahh now i know why i didn't see it. It only applies to vehicles made before Oct. 1992. Mine is a 97 and specifies 5.5. I've always filled it up with just 5 quarts no problem.

Yea applied mainly to 92-93 sc300.

I had a chance to change my oil today. Added 4.5q and drove it around for a bit. Afterwards, I checked the dipstick and it was on the low side. I added another 0.5q and it was good.
