Default weird starting problem...

i've been having this problem ever since i owned it but i just never really think of it, anyways everytime i start my car when the engine is cold it sputters (i think that's what it's called) and i could smell coolant fluid..i kinda have a feeling my HG is going out (btw my car has 306K+). but after a minute or two it'll idle fine...no codes, will at least not anymore...

Does it puff out white smoke out the exaust when you start it up? If it does you might have a headgasket issue. If it is blue then your valve guides might be worn down and there is old leaking threw the head. Black smoke it might be a worn out injectors and it is leaking the fuel from the high pressure line overnight.

^^thanks! i'm pretty sure it's more of a blueish color, do you think i'll be able to keep driving fine w/o any major damage to the engine?

Unless you want to rebuild the head and maybe put new rings in the pistons you should be somewhat okay. You have over 300,000 miles on the car it would be cheaper to replace the engine with accessories for around $800 or less. Or get a bare bones motor for $400. If you leave it as is you will eventually coat the 02 sensors and those will go bad. It will coat and decompose your cats slowly unless you cut those out already. Your call.
