It took about 3.5 hours for a mechanic to swap a transmission on my sc400. Didn't seem too complicated but removing bolts on hard to reach spot and tight spot was most difficult task. If I remember correctly he did as follow

- remove cover plate between transmisson and engine. It will give you an access to flywheel bolts. (bolt - plate - torque converter)
- mount ratchet on crankcase pulley and rotate clockwise for each bolt.
- remove bolts on flywheel. I think there was about 5 or 6 bolts. Angle socket and long extension was needed. Impact wrench couldn't unbolt it so he used breaker bar.
- remove trans mount
- unclip oxygen sensor wire and remove exhaust pipe
- unclip trans wires and gear shift linkage
- unbolt transmisson and shaft
- remove bolts btw tranny and engine. You need really long extension to reach bolts on top of transmission.

Removing bolts on flywheel and top of transmission took most of time. Lil bit of oil dripped from where oil cooler line attaches to tranny.
Tools used - sockets, angle socket adapter, long extension, tranny lift
I didn't see him use anyother special tool.

Lol... Thanx for the help man. I removed the exhaust yesterday and then it started to rain. BUT! it was just a teaser. I put everything away quick and in about 15 minutes it stopped completely. I was pissed. So yeah today i'll be doing the job. TWICE! first i gotta take mine out and after that i have to go take out the new i'm purchasing from another car. Baekpro i appreciate the help once again. I have all those tools you listed so it should be easy cake for me lol.

Mechanic initially estimated $400 for a job but he charged $350. I also needed 7qts of tranny fluid. Used tranny had some fluid left inside.
Tranny swap on RWD drive car should be 2 hours job, but I couldn't shop around since my car needed towing.

Its not to tough but some of the bolts are really tough to break loose. get a 3 foot 1/2" drive extension and a break over bar and work from the back.

are you using a lift or jackstands. If you are using jackstands, makesure whatever jack you are using can lift the tranny up high enough. I had this problem on other cars where the jack needed to lift the tranny 3mm higher than the jacks max height. Those trannys wouldn't slide off. Changed jacks to one with a taler max height and they just slid off on their own.

Thanx Scott! I appreciate the call. If you never called me i would've never had transmission out. I would've broken something lol. well i actually I did... the "drop down cable" i think that's what you called it. But yeah dude I wanna thank you very much for the help. Dude it took like hours to take it out on mine because I had no idea what I was going to face. I'm a tech for Rotary engines lol. Oh yeah... ALSO! Unbolting the torque converter through that little gap makes everything so much EASIER! Second time i took the tranny out was like 1 hour and 45 minutes. Again... Thank you Scott. PEACE OUT YO!
