My 93 SC400 is dying, please help me diagnost the prob
I have a '93 SC400 with about 162,000 miles on it. and it's just running like crap. I'm scared to drive it.
When I start the car, it idles around 800 RPM, but once I put it in drive, it drops all the way to like 200 RPM... Look: http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n..._0373Small.jpg Yep, thats how low this car idles when in drive. I'm so scared to drive it. I almost died out on the road because it was idling so low. When I was at a stop it was at 200, and when I pressed the gas the car tugged and it felt like it turned off but I throttled it enough for it to rev up and change gears so it kept going. Also, I hear this weird WHINING noise coming from the engine like my car has a blower. What could this be? A belt going bad perhaps? I know my alternator can't be going bad because I started the car up and removed one of the battery terminal and the car still ran. Should I do an oil change? Is there a way I can adjust the idle with a screwdriver in the engine? |
Bump..
ClubLexus doesn't have any ideas? I've cleaned the air filter and throttle body, cleaned around the throttle. Still the same. I drove it all around fine last night but I had to ease on the throttle while at a stop so it didn't jerk down to 0 RPM and die out. Any tutorial on how to adjust the IAC so it idles higher? |
check out your TPS, MAF sensor, and any and all vacuum lines. spray some carb cleaner over the engine... if it revs up you have a vacuum leak someplace....
also check the condition of the spark plugs, wires, and coil....whichever you have..could also be a failing distributor...... try searching next time.... |
It may likely be the TPS. Search it up or if you already know how to adjust it, turn it clockwise just a little bit.

the same thing happend with my buddies vehicle. it was the MAF sensor.
|
Thanks guys ill check that out..
I tried to do a little searching as well.. but for the love of god i have no idea where the TPS screw is to turn clockwise to try that first... can you help me locate it? I sprayed carb cleaner over the engine and didn't hear anything, so scratch that. also maybe it could be my MAF so if everything isn't normal after I adjust the TPS then I'll probably get a new MAF. |

clean the maf before you shell out to buy a new one...or switch it out with a friend..
