The VVTI motor is sweet i must say. The only reason I didn't go with it while I was in Japan is because there is not much supporting mods for it. And it's a pita to tune.

GL with the swap, everything looks great.

Mine is a 99sc with a chaser vvti motor, stock auto trans, front mount.
How easy was the wiring for the VVTi motor? and where did you source the gaskets for the swap?

So what are you guys doing about the ewiring harness? I've wanted to do this swap for a few months but can't find any info on the harness modification. Is it about as straight forward as a 1JZ-GTE swap?

Default swap

Dr Tweak did my harness, tried to do it myself first, its more difficult when u are getting a chaser swap into an sc. Not sure on a soarer to sc swap.

How much did the harness run you? I've can't get a exact answer on how much it is. Some people say that it only cost $400 while other say it cost the upwards of $750.

Default Harness

It all depends on how many connectors u need replacing shipping to and from. He may have changed pricing for the swap, i think i was done with shipping and some connectors replaced for 600 or so. I am sure its a ballpark think as it will depend on what needs to be done to each on a case by case basis.

From what i've gathered on toymods and other forums the soarer engine is easier in that the wiring is mostly plug and play (obviously have to extend the ECU harness like all other JDM swaps). I have yet to see a soarer VVTi enigne for sale though.

The VVTi motors I've seen fetch anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 which is crazy. It makes me think with those prices why not pick up a VVTi 2JZ-GTE?

But where are our pics?

I paid $1250 for one and $750 for a spare engine with no turbo, both in great condition with low miles.

with those prices, you are buying from the wrong people.

It runs, I just keep adding more mods before i take it out on the road for good. Here is one photo with the engine in, now to do the intercooler, turbo brakes, radiator etc, etc.

I just subscribed to this thread! I think this is where i need to be!

I am doing a 1jz gte w/R154 swap right now and want to try and get this build up and running asap.

Current car = 1997 sc300 automatic
Project engine= 1jz gte w/ 5pd r154 (probably a chaser motor and tranny)

My major issues/concerns are:

1.R154 tranny doesnt fit into sc300 correctly as it seems to be a little short. I have been told to get it extended (around $350). Are there any other options to getting this tranny to fit into the car

2.Since this is a JDM motor what will I need to do to make the ECU and harness fit and work correctly

3.Going from auto to 5spd mt = will i need to change my driveshaft completely or are there any quick mods i can do to avoid paying for this

4.Will I have an issue with the LSD going from auto to manual or will that be fine ( i know that i will be loosing out on some power but if thats the only issue I can deal with it until I can afford to change this) Building on a budget now adays.

I will be posting pics up of my build once I get my camera back since i lent it out.
