Default What oil do you use in winter?

I live in the pacific northwest and i'm noticing some really cold weather, it's been below freezing the past couple days and snowy. This is my first winter with my SC so i'm wondering if any of you guys use 0-30 motor oil?

I usually use 5-30 castrol high mileage (cause my motor has 200k)

Thanks,
Joe

I changed my oil yesterday with synthetic 5w-30. My car is a daily driver and the DC weather is not all that extreme.

5w20 or sometimes a straight 10. nothing wrong with either one. i dont beat on the car during winter too much. for the winter run thinnner oil. will make it a lot easier for it to turn over on those cold cold morning. then again im in chicago. it can get cold here.

nobody here runs 0W-20 or 0W-30 during winter?

Just curious if that'd be better. did those 0W-30 oils exist 10 years ago?

Thicker the oil for hotter weather. Thiner the oil for colder weather flows a lot better. 0w-20 for colder northern states. 5w-20 or 5w-30 at the coldest for the lower southern states that don't freeze as much.

You should change that. Cold starts and full operating temps in low and cold weather have a drastic change on your oil viscosity.

That doesn't mean it's ok or good for your motor. 305K or not. If you don't drive it hard all the time and keep up good maintenance sure you can run the same all year, I'm not saying it's going to blow your motor or anything or cause major damage if you don't. But it does make it easier on your motor if you change it.

I just changed it a week ago to 10w-30....I've been using 5w-30 because the car's been in Colorado.

I run 5w-30 year round. We have a lot of days in the winter where the temp does not get above zero (like today.. high of -8 or so) and I haven't had any problems.
