Default 1J runs like crap at WOT

I don't know what it is...

I've replaced the one torn coilpack that I had and that made no difference.

When driving normally, it runs perfectly fine, but if you try and drive it at heavy/WOT throttle, the car misses like crazy.

I read on here that the stock fuel pump is good enough to support the 1J, but I'm kinda starting to think that maybe my fuel pump is crapping out when I try to ask it for all this fuel? That sound reasonable?

Someone else said something about the ignitor possibly being bad? That sound reasonable at all?

Only other thing I can think of is if one of the injectors is no good, but like I said, it runs fine in normal driving conditions.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

How are your spark plugs? My mr2 turbo would misfire at high rpms and I found out the spark plugs were bad.

Spark plugs +1 They are the first thing I would check for sure. I'm running the stock fuel pump and its been fine so far for me. Maybe the fuel filter as stated above? Could be clogged....

I already replaced the fuel filter.

Also, I've already replaced the spark plugs, twice now. I'm running BKR6Es gapped to .28.

well then the plugs might still be the problem, see the BK6s aren't really recommended for the 1JZ, the BK7s and BK8s are the ones that are going to be able to keep the spark going.

My 1JZ is doing the same thing, you can see it on my dyno sheet (...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE7OxWeVT4w...)...see the two downward spikes? Im going to replace the coils first, then take it from there, but I also have the BK6s and the tech there told me, and showed me, the difference between the BK6,7,and 8s. I'm all about getting the best the first time, no cutting corners with my spaceship.

Hope this helps.

Where are you located?

My friends Supra is having the exact same problem. He's running a Walbro so I know the fuel pump isn't the problem...

I don't think I'm hitting boost cut...it's at stock boost. Only mods are a cone filter and small FMIC.

I guess I could try another set of spark plugs, but from what I've read, the 6Es are the "OEM" replacement so far as NGK's go...

Try swapping to a known good set of coilpacks from another car

we had the same problem with Todd's ( Rising_sun) car here last year
and it was the coil packs

They all looked good and tested fine, but were damaged

see if that helps.

Swap the plugs, Get a fuel pump, I doubt the stocker can handle the demand of boost, I own a 1jz swapped supra & it's AEM ems powered, Swap coils with a friend, The coils have a tendency to crack & they start having weak spark...

Well **** *****. You guys were right. I got a set of BKR7E's today, gapped them to .024, and it's running okay now.

BUT...It feels like it gets really weak at higher RPMs. I'm not talkin' redline, I'm talkin at like 5-6rpm, I feel like it starts slowing down, doesn't have power like it should.

Any ideas? It runs great through midrange now, pulls like it should.

Could be shot fuel pump or injectors. Sounds like a fuel issue at this point. Maybe try running some injector cleaner through?

Yeah. You guys think seafoam is alright to run through the 1J? I've heard mixed things about it. We have an injection system cleaner at my work, but I don't think we have the right connections to hook it up to my car, VW uses quick disconnects.
