Default Need advice (Engine Swap ???)

i currently own a 93 5spd sc300 as we all know with the 2jz-ge.... the motor has a good bit of miles on it around 170xxx i am thinking about doing a 2jz-gte swap and using my old tranny or should i just build the motor that is in it already and turbo it. etc... ???

any help or advice is appreciated, Thanks Nick

I would just swap in the 1jz. (although I am a little biased ) You get factory reliability, and a lower mileage engine for about the same price as an NA-T setup.

i would do the best of both worlds. i would buy a 1jz and do a 1.5jz build. 1jz lacks torque. if you had the 2jz bottom end and 1jz top end then you would still have stock reliability, more torque, and be able to rev to about 7200rpm. the only thing you might need is an safc.

Why is everyone saying swap a 1J? He's talking about a 2JZ-GTE or a NA-T...

But anyways, like most everyone else has said, you can find Aristo 2JZ-GTE swaps for nearly the same price as a good NA-T build, and like OneJay said, you have the reliability factor, and a lot less mileage.

That's what I would do...I ended up doing a 1J because I got the swap for a pretty good deal, but I know of places you can find Aristo 2J swaps for under 2 grand.

Do suspension, brakes, and body mods before a motor.

People in this country do everything backwards.

When and if it does become time to swap engines, think v8.

thank you all for your replies... im truthfully not sure what im going to do yet but i dont care about body mods really... the sc's look clean as they sit its what underneath the hood that matters..

so.... maybe do a swap but still use my tranny?

The swap would work, but that tranny would be a bit of a liability. The W58 doesn't like a ton of power through it and would bite the dust if you smash on it hard. Swap it or turbo, somewhere down the line you'll need to start looking at a tranny upgrade, either R154 or V160 (if you can find one for cheap). IMO start looking for an R154 unless you are really set on the swap, then swap it, keep the old tranny and just take it easy on the old W58 and you'll be just fine.

Depending on your power goals I would Just pick up a stock 2JZGE block and do a rebuild with GTE internals (extra block means no down time) slap on your turbo prob freshin up the tranny a bit and you good to go
