A quick Water Pump replacement question
So I'm going to be replacing my water pump within the next 2 weeks. I'm not having any issues of over heating or anything yet, but with the car having 173k on it I think its about time to replace it as a safety precaution.
Now I understand that there are 2 different water pumps out there..........10
hole and 11 hole pumps, does anyone know which one a 97 sc300 would use?
Also the pump I'm getting has a paper gasket, is that going to be sufficient enough, if not does anyone know if I can get a rubber one? I talked to Toyota and was told they dont carry a gasket for the water pump.
Now onto my last question.........well its more of a list than a question, but what else should I be replacing, so far this is what I have:
-Pump
-Thermostat
-drive belt
-tensioner
-timing belt (maybe, honestly the belt on there now looks brand new, so I'm not sure)
Did I miss any gaskets or any other things?

I just replaced mine on my 95 a few weeks ago, IIRC it was 10bolt.
I ordered all my parts from toyota. The pump itself was ~$150 and it was the entire housing sealed with a paper gasket, not just the front piece of the pump.
I replaced the pump, thermostat, timing belt, timing belt tension pulley, and all the hoses.
As far as gaskets go i ordered a gasket kit for all the gaskets on the head, i figured i might as well replace them while im in there.
i didnt but if you have the $$ you might want to consider replacing the oil pump, if that goes out your going to have to tear everything back off.

How much was your final total if you dont mind me asking?
The thing is I have not been having issue...........well at least I dont think I have been having issues with it.
I still have more than half a tube left from when I did my valve covers

90999-92008 Hose, Vac List 41.44 Cosy 31.64 2600 Mm Long
forgot to mention i also replaced all the vacuum hoses.
Another thing i need to mention. As you know the lexus has a heater control valve for the heatercore. Mine was leaking so during the wintertime when the coolant ran through this control valve i would lose pressure/coolant. I dont know how much it is to replace but i can imagine its costly. Anyways the supra doesnt have this so ordered the heater core hoses from the supra. I had to modify one hose a bit and use some old hose from what i took off but i made it work.
EDIT* i would use the paper gasket, but i would put a thin layer of FIPG on each side of the gasket to ensure a good seal

LOL yeah im not sure why the Serpentine belt is so much more than the timing belt. Thank you for your help, any pointers I should watch out for........I mean when I changed the valve covers it seemed like everything wanted to fight with me

Really the intake is the biggest pain (with the egr installed) Luckily i live in a sniffer free county in tx so i removed all the egr mess. I guess depending on what you want to replace you may not have to take off much if any of the intake
You also might want to start off loosening the crank bolt since its torqued down to ~220ft/lbs and can be a hassle to break free. One trick the supra guys like to use is put a ratchet with a breaker bar against the ground and bump the starter. It is a bit more dangerous that way, but its the easiest way w/o having to buy/borrow special tools.
if you tear into it and have any problems let me know ill help as much as i can

the number of bolts depends on your motor it varies for some dumb reason while you have the pump out on the new one use the paper gasket and lay a bit of sealant on it with your finger just take care on placing it in while your at it replace the timing beltand any where else you see leaking oil.... camshaft seals front main seals etc if its leaking tensioners if they don't look good .... and all that nice stuff replace the thermostat while your at it i guess and flush out the old crap in the water ways
