Degreased engine and it stopped running
I am the original owner of a 92 SC400 since purchasing in Dec 1991.
I have consistently followed the following method of engine cleaning twice a year. After heating the engine I spray it with 2 cans of Gunk. I try to not leave any portion of the engine, hoses, wiring, etc, untouched. I then let it sit 10 minutes and then hose it off using a common spray nozzle (the more pressure the better). I then dry the engine with a leaf blower. I follow this with spraying the engine and compartment with STP Protectorant. I then dry the engine using a dry clean shop towel. It looks like new, protects the rubber hoses, makes the black plastic shiny and new. The engine compartment looks like new.
Never had a problem with the engine running after doing this.
I did experience a problem when I attempted this on my daughters very dirty 4-cylinder Altima. Did my usual cleaning and while driving 30 minutes later at 55 mph the engine commenced to cutout. Found the problem to be the spark plugs. They are mounted vertically downward on top of the engine and water had gotten into these depressions. Removing the plugs revealed that a couple of them had exposed to oil from a leaky valve cover (which allowed the oil to be blown back up on top of the engine and into the plug depressions.
Reading the postings, I think my lack of having problems was probably blow drying the engine after cleaning.
What do you think.

I detailed my engine bay today to help identify a leak coming from the valve cover gasket area. I let it sit a few days without driving it to ensure it was cool before I sprayed it with the engine degreaser. I used mean green, autozones engine degreaser, and extra strength simple green. I made sure to cover up the alternator and I was very mindful of the spark plugs and the coils making sure to avoid this area.
I sprayed the chemical liberally on the parts that were not covered then followed up with a mist to light stream of water. I repeated this over and over until I emptied all three bottles. I also scrubbed with a hand brush. I dressed up all the plastic and hoses. My engine looks WAY better than before. Im very proud and estatic of the results! I will continue to include my engine whenever I wash my car. It shouldn't be any problem identifying my leak. I've already for the gasket for replacement.
