1jz temp fix didnt work? wth

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=236548

ok so that thread shows what wires to ground so i know i grounded the right one. it didnt fix the temp gauge.

when i looked the pin that the brown wire is in does not line up to any wire on the 1jz body plug.

is this normal? shouldnt there be a wire in the body plug on the motor side to match up with the new fancy ground i just added?

im so confused.

i will work on taking some pics of the pinouts so you can see what i am talking about.

I T-tapped the brown wire to ground it, and wrapped the ground wire around one of the studs on the floor and bolted it down, it seemed pretty simple. Is that what you did?

yes thats what i did. seems weird that the brown wire on the body side dosent line up with any pins in the harness side.:uh:
thats whats so confusing to me.

If you have a 95 i doubt the wire is brown.I m not 100% positive since i never owned one .What i do know is that on the 92 and 97 the colors are different. Make sure you find the right wire on the 1j harness.I never heard of the harness missing and i did at least 4 swaps.

thanks for the input. so any idea how i would find the corect wire? should i just check pin 24 on the 1j harness or..... check pin 24 on the body side..?

sc250tt May 27, 2008 05:13 PM

24 on the 1j harness.

sleeperSC May 27, 2008 05:40 PM

i will check into it tomorrow. so i should be able to ground pin 24 on the 1j harness and it will work? even if it dosent line up on the body side?

makes me wonder why the write up fix would have you ground on the body side rather than just ground the 1j harness....

i will take pics of what i find tomorrow.

thanks for the help.

update:

so while driving home tonight the gauge worked for a couple seconds then stopped again. weird.

i beat on the dash some by the gauge cluster to see if maybe it was something loose there that randomly connected to make it work. no change.
im pretty sure my ground is not the issue. i used a crimp terminal and attached it to the stud/nut that holds the ecu in its stock location. a couple days ago i even tried a different ground and it still didnt work.

where is the sending unit on the motor? maybe the connector is loose or something. it was raining out tonight, maybe the water completed the circuit of a loose connector for a sec or two.

yay gremlins!

sc250tt May 28, 2008 06:39 AM

If the ground is not connected it will jump all the way to hot .Once its grounded it it will go down according to the actual temp.

sleeperSC May 28, 2008 08:38 AM

well mine stays at C. when it worked for a few sec it jumped up to normal operating temp.... then fell back to C.

im starting to think maybe the sensor or the cluster wire is loose or something.

where is the temp gauge sensor on the motor?

sc250tt May 28, 2008 09:16 AM

If that the case most likely its a bad sensor or guage.

sleeperSC May 28, 2008 11:37 AM

well the gauge worked fine for the last year i have owned it. i doubt it went out with the swap.

im gonna mess with the sensor.

thanks for the help.
