Default AC question for Las Vegas heads!

after swapping out my motor in my 1992 Sc300, i disconnected my AC unit. The AC unit actually ran out of Freon right before i disconnected. I live in Nevada, where AC is a must! especially during the summer. So i need to find out if i have to convert my AC unit to R134.

i know in CA, the laws permit you to change your old R12 system to the R134 system. Does this law apply in Nevada? I need to get the AC fixed before the heat comes to town.

i've seen the conversion kit at Wal-Mart, but a conversion kit at Wal-Mart sounds sketchy. Any input on this situation?

Stick with R12.

I think there's thread about this. It needs new fittings to retrofit R134 into R12

So i guess say no to that Wal-Mart brand.

I thought R12 was phased out long time ago. Over here from what I recall it's illegal to regas it with R12, once it's gone it has to be converted.

That's exactly what i was wondering.

i wasn't sure if the R12 system was even still legal to use, being that the R-134 was the CNC free system.

or is R12 still Legal at all?

there are R12 suppliments that you can use that you can buy on ebay...you probably will need to fill them yourself since most AC shops wont touch anything that has an R and 12 on it, but this stuff sells legally all over the US. I cannot remember the name of it but a friend had some sitting and we filled mine last summer and my R12 works great.

Or you could just run down to mexico and have them fill your stuff...they still used R12
