Default Running lean with resistors

Forgive me for being an idiot for this but I recently read about this "mod chip" which is nothing more than a resistor on the MAF to trick the ecu telling it the car is taking in more air, therefore adding more fuel to the mix. My question is, is it possible to install a resistor or some other kind electronic attachment to the o2 sensor/MAF that can trick the ecu into running more lean? Just another attempt at getting better gas mileage.

Just get an SAFC and a wideband. Don't mess with that.
