Default terrible noise....

so today my car started making a pretty unfortunate sounding noise....It started out as a harsh squealing that was a little louder and more metallic than your usual fan belt squeal, but it seemed to be coming from the fan belt, so I sprayed it down to see if that was the problem, and for like 5 minutes that was the solution...however after the engine warmed back up the noise came back, but this time louder, slightly more focused, and no longer present at idling speeds (instead at any rpm over about 1,000)...Now I don't know if it got worse as a result of anything I did, or if it just got worse from being run, but the noise now is this real nasty kinda metallic (though it still sounds like a belt) squeal, coming from right behind the fan belt, about where the lexus emblem is on the the intake manifold, and I'm concerned (I have a 1995 SC400 1uz-fe with 101,000 miles to clarify).

I think it's the timing belt...it hasn't ever been replaced, but I've never really had a car's timing belt fail on me, so I don't really now what I am listening for. So I just wanted anyone else's opinion on this, who might have heard a similar noise/problem....thanks.

If you are not sure it is in your serpentine belt, pull it off and run the motor just long enough to see if the noise is still there. If it is the serpentine, check belt, pullies, allignment, tensioner and each accessory (usual stuff)

Good luck.

a i have the same problem on my car. I hear the sound from my under my hood too. Could be it be the fan or the timing belt. How much does it cost to get new timing belt and water pump done a local mechanic? can a local mechanic be trusted or should i take it to the dealer? what price will i be looking forward to. I just want my car to run smooth and no funny noise from under my hood. I got a v8 so i just wanna hear my engine

my 1UZ went to 130k without a new timing belt because I had just bought it and then had maintenance done on it.
