You are wrong, please don't start misinformation if you have no idea what you are talking about.

above you have a sc400 gated shifter shown.
below I am posting a sc300 gated shifter, notice the difference?


The SC300 has : L, 2, 3, D
Those are 4 things, letters numbers, whatever you want to call it, there are 4 of them.
and yes they did replace 1 with L, it should not be that mind blowing to understand that L or LOW is 1st gear on your transmission.

Also just cause they are next to each other does not mean they are the same gear, how do you think L which is 1st and 2nd which is 2nd are the same gear, You can see clearly on the sc300 shifter that L and 2 are not the same gear by your logic since they are not next to each other on that one, but they are next to each other on the SC400 one. Also by that flawed logic the sc300 would have 3 gears and the sc400 would have 3 gears, as you can see that is not correct.

THE REASON THEY PUT L NEXT TO 2 ON THE SC400 WAS BECAUSE THEY DIDN"T WANT TO MAKE THE GATED SHIFTERS 2 DIFFERENT SIZES BY MAKING IT LONGER, so they just added another gate like they did on the LS, the GS, a bunch of lexus's have the same setup.

The GATED SC400 has: L, 2, 3, 4, D
notice the extra 4 that was not there before, if its the same gear then why would they make a whole new shifter for it and change the rear end ratio of the differential to match the 5 speed transmission like they do on every single v8 vehicle with a 5 speed automatic.

again, what I am stating is mere fact, not a guess, not a test and try,
ALL sc300's came with 4 speed transmissions where 1st is called "L" and 4th is called "D"
pre 98 sc400's came with the same 4 speed setup as above, and
post 98 sc400's got a SPECIAL 5 speed auto where 1st is L, and 5th is called "D"

I hope that clears the confusion up for everyone.

not sure, are you saying you got a gated shifter from a 97 ls and trying to put it in your 94 sc?

I should ad that I just did this in my 97 sc400 with a donor 2000 sc300 and as far as the linkage goes the sc300-92-97 are identical to the gated rod the difference comes from the sc400 so use a sc300 rod or the rod that came with the gated shifter if avl or if you have a sc400 cut the rod down 1"

Just finished installing my gated shifter assembly, yet the shift lock won't unlock when the brake is depressed. Any pointers? Thanks!
