Default best gearing for turbo 5speed?

Question for you 5speed turbo guys
what gearings have you tried and what's you opinion on the best one 4.08, 4.27, 3.77?

would a 4.27 make 1st and 2nd too short?

arent the 3.77 what came in the auto mklV? thats what i would run on a five speed. but its all comes down to preference. so u just have to think about what you want to use the car for.

I have the 4.27, and the first and second gear are very short, but the feeling of acceleration is amazing, it's like a go-kart. If you have a properly set up suspension, you shouldnt have an issue.

What he said! I'm in the same boat, 1JZ with 4.27 and 5 speed. First and Second gets to redline to fast, it's almost useless. When boost hits, I'm spinning the tires! Need an LSD.

But it is fun though!

I HAVE 4.27 AND HATE IT , my car has a t67DBB turbo so spool is quick and heck 1st and 2nd gears hits rev lim way too fast 3 gear which supposed to be our power gear by design again too short as boost is building i have to shift to 4th, noo good , i raced my friend with a 1jz same r154 tranny i have he puts down 467 and i put down about 470 , 2nd gear i hang but because going to rev limit i have to shift to 3rd while he's still holding 2nd so of course he begins to pull away then when he hits third i have to go to 4th race over at that point , he has the 3.76 supra tt lsd rear , well i have one sitting in my garage ready to drop in which i will do this week seeing my front bumper got damaged , foot slipped off cloutch car lunged forward into my wall in my garage and cracked my autocouture bumper so while bumper is off getting fixed i will swap out rear end

Like I said in your other thread, according to Josh at FSM the 3.76 is the best bet for the 5-speed. I have the stock 4.08's and I'm definitely looking forward to the day I can swap rear ends out for something else.

i had a 4.08 and then i blew it up

i got a 4.27 from a 95 sc300 auto. the 1st and 2nd are short but it pretty torquey. when drifting it helps to break the tires loose.

i want lower gearing as well. crousing on the highway at 75 im at 3500rpm or so.

everyone i run into is either stock gearing or the 3.7, Ive been planning on trying the gs300 3.9, i have the 4.08 on a stock 1j it feels good just a little short on the highway I personally want to try the 3.9 it seems like it should hold the boost a little longer yet pull away quicker than the 3.7 guys. what do you guys think about this theory I'm curious if someone has tried it with an lsd to hear about there results?

I don't think you'd really like 3.13's with a 5-speed transmission.
