Hmm.. Smoking engine. Need opinions.
Alright, on the way back from work I was just driving along and got home fine. I popped the engine bay when I got home because, I'm not going to lie, I got on it a few times..
I popped the hood and I noticed smoke coming from the upper left section of the motor. If you were standing facing the car.
Also noticed the motor was pretty damn hot, but it wasn't reading high on the temp. guage.
Maybe it's normal, I'm just worried..
I went back out like 10 minutes later and although the motor was still hot, the smoke had started to clear.
Let me know this is normal so I can stop pacing like a retard.

yeah mine drips oil onto the exhaust back there too...think it's a valve cover leaking...it smeels awful and is really embarassing at long lights when smoke is coming from my engine. Looks like I'm driving a total piece of crap.

Might just be your valve cover vent? From the factory it is plumbed back into the intake. Did it come out? Or do yu have a k&N breather setup?
As said above, could be some sort of trans fluid or oil getting on the exhaust as well. Crawl under the car and look....

I have the same exact problem. I think it is oil getting to the exhaust. I had to replace my ignition coil (near the battery) because it stopped working due to oil getting to it. It all started when I switched to synthetic oil. I should've learned a lesson from my MR2, if you're gonna switch to synthetic, introduce it a little at a time til the engine gets used to it.

Mine went away after I replaced one of my coils. It was unburned fuel when one of the coils went out. And yeah, it did come out of the upper left of the engine, right behind where the trac system is. It smelled like burning plastic.
