How do you like your 1jz or 2jz automatic??
I have an SC4 that Im going to be doing "the" swap in, but I cant decide if I want to do the manual swap while Im at it or keep it an auto.
All my boosted cars were manual. I once had a 2nd gen NA Eclipse that was an auto and it was a dog. So you can see my personal concern on keeping it an auto. I def have the tools and knowledge to do this, I have done motor swaps and tranny swaps before. The SC is just a project car, I have others, so it wont hurt to sit till its done. So basically, can give me your insight on your auto's or the reason you swapped to a manual, I greatly appreciate it. Thanks |
My sluggish slushbox sucks. Maybe a built one with a shift kit or shimmed accumulators would be better, but IMO you would most definitely be more happy with an R154 or V160.

Love it, just wish it could hold more power.

DJ420A im in the same boat as you.i bought my sc when i hurt my right elbow and now dont mind the auto tranny.(its my 1st auto car) but i do miss a 5 speed tranny.but also like the auto in ****ty ny traffic.

2JZGTE or N/A GE?
Mine is fine. Shift smoothly and doesn't give me any problems. |

I would totally get bored driving an automatic boosted car. I have my SC which is a 5 speed and I never get bored of revmatching and controlling the gears. I had an IS350 for a bit (much faster than my car) and I already got bored of the auto. Paddle shifting doesn't do it for me.
Just get a manual and enjoy the car to its full potential. Unless you don't really care about driving the way I do, lol. Most of my friends like cars just to get from point A to B and don't have a passion for driving. |
My SC was auto for about 1½ years... it was boring as hell. As it is, this thing is a DOG when it's NA, and the automatic tranny didnt help much either-
so I boosted it and converted it to manual. Fun factor went through the roof  |
Mine's a factory manual, but the only way I can see ever having a car like this with an auto would have to be a full manual valvebody TH400 or something similar. My roommate has a '96 Formula with a T76 on it and a MVB TH400 and it's fun.

More and more of my friends are getting manual.
I thinking I am going to convert my car in the next upcoming year. |
the TH400 can hold LOTS of power and will get you off the line in a hurry for drag racing. Also you won't lose boost between shifts as with a manual, plus the shifts can be very quick with a shift kit. You will lose more power to parasitic losses however, although with a 2jz, that shouldn't be a big concern (more boost ftw!). I think it comes down to how you intend to use it. If you wanna be fast at the drag strip get an auto, if you want to have fun on the street, I'd say manual.

i tired both, i got to say your not fully enjoying your car unless you are downshifting in a tight turn :)

I say 1j auto trannys are awesome. Plus if you drive in traffic shifting sucks

I'm still rollin' with my stock GE auto , modified V.B. ,& 2800 stall TC on my daily driven Na-T.
Since its a D/D, the automatic isnt bad. Shifts are very quick and a bit harder than before. But tolerable. And when i do want to play. The restalled TC = amazing launches! :driving: ..... Although I agree that a stock stalled automatic SC300 is a slug ..... truth be told, an automatic, w/a hi-stall TC is much quicker out the gate than a 5spd..... That being said, I would still trade it for a manual tranny in a heartbeat . But as long as mine is still shifting, I'm fine with it. |
sc300 1jz auto stock and love it .
