Default Power Steering Or ATF Fluid ?

Sup, im gonna replace my power steering high pressure hose and not too sure which fluid to use. The shop i bought the pressure hose from told me to use power steering fluid..

im pretty sure it says right on the cap to use ATF.

just out of curiosty... why? that's what i use just because that's what it tells me... but does anyone know why?

probably depends on the type of bearing in the pump and seals in the rack.

If you put PS fluid in you well destroy the bearings. Trust me I know from personal experience.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but does anyone know if you can use the same Type-II ATF the tranny needs for the power steering or does it have to be the Dexron II stuff in the owner's manual?

i used the Dexron II stuff.. or like mobil 1 tranny fluid.. or yea..
any ATF fluid really for the PS pump. but iono about like T4..

Use the Mobil 1 Dexron synthetic ATF fluid. Flush the system and refill with the synthetic ATF.
