Default automatic or manual when buying ?

i was contiplating buying a 1995 sc300 5 speed.and doing some modifications.my goal is to have between 400 and 500 h.p. to the wheels.is there any advantage in buying a 5 speed? will i have to go to a getrag 6 speed? this car will be my daily driver.any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The manual will hold more power than the automatic. If that is your HP goal, definitely get the manual, otherwise you'll either be swapping one in later or a built auto tranny. If you end up in the lower end of that HP spectrum, the 5 speed should be fine, as long as you don't abuse it. There are people running around in the mid 4's with a 5spd. Typically, when you start talking about 500 and more(I'm assuming we're talking rwhp here), you also start talking about a 6 speed.

yeah the getrag tranny will hold the power......but you need to consider the cost, of the tranny...WOW...the clutch to hold it and the flywheel.....the auto tranny can hold some power, just get a tranny cooler and around 450-500 your still good to ge on it anytime and your safe....thats what i got, but if you get bored with the auto(like i am) then go 6 speed....like i am about to

There is quite a price to pay for being on the high side of the whp numbers you quote "400-500". The oem TT fuel system is maxxing out then also and you'll likely need something more than a SAFC to run it.
