Default OIL: Synthetic or Conventional?

Should I be using synthetic oil for my '94 SC300? Or is conventional just as effective?

Its true. Ive seen it several times.

I use regular ole conventional, and keep it changed regularly. Cars have been surviving for a long time, on conventional. Your not going to get ENOUGH better fuel milage, and extended engine life, ....to justify the price difference.

About these issues, i doubt it has anything to do with high mileage per say, rather how often the oil has been changed in the cars lifetime. Using conventional increases the chances of gunky buildup in all parts of your engine, thats why when switching to synthetic, they always recommend a special blend (0w30?) to wipe clean the gunk left over by conventional oil. I believe synthetic actually lifts the gunk left behind and it is possible for holes that were plugged up with gunk to open because of this.

My car has 224K miles and I'm going to guess it had conventional oil most of it's life (it was stock when I got it). I've been running Royal Purple and haven't noticed any leaking from it.

How about synthetic blend, best of both and cost less than full syn.

be prepared for a possible small oil leak - but if it does leak if you switch, it's only because the dino oil was leaving deposits anyways...

i run synthetic in everything...

the extra peace of mind, especially when you drive the car hard... definitely worth it...

i ran conventional quite a while and switched to synthetic recently within a year or two and i really cant tell any real difference. research and technology claims synthetic as better and i guess it give me peace of mind, but you probably get better results for both if you just change your oil regularly as oppose to which oil is better.

Got the car with 60k miles ... now has 170k

Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic 5w30 ($6.10/Qt. $24.95/Gallon big boy)
Bosch Premium Oil Filter ($7.00)

Best combo I can find, no problems at all

ln the oil cap in my car, it says to use 5w-30, why then, would oil shops put 10w-30 in my car?
