Default Air conditioning question..wow

so i was wondering...does the A/C system have to be charged in order to work? i dont have anything in the system and i just wanted to test the a/c compressor to see if it turned on. so i can actually use a/c now

p.s this would be my first car that has a/c

Yes, it has to be charged. The compressor won't kick on if it doesn't see any pressure.

You can run 12v to the compressor to see if it will kick on...

If you do that, I'd make sure there was oil in the system or just don't let it run very long.
