Default 2JZGTE (maybe 1jzgte too?) - Tach Fix! For newer model SCs 97+

Some of you may have experienced what I call:

That is what the back of the 97+ SC300 gauge cluster looks like. And with that said, you can't do the easy resistor trick.

First I tried the basic ideas that people had used previously:
Tach Output (A16 - Black w/White) of the 2JZGTE ECU straight -- FAILED
Tach Adapter on the Tach Output of the 2JZGTE ECU -- FAILED
Igniter Tach Output (A1 - Black) -- FAILED
Tach Adapter on the Igniter Tach Output -- SUCCESS!!

So with that said, I haven't actually driven the car around with it...but I see a 1k idle and movement when I blip the throttle. For those of you still stuck, this appears to be the answer.

It is essentially a little box that takes one type of tach signal input and converts it into another type of tach signal which can be "understood" by your factory tach.

I do not have pictures at the moment, but I ran the wire from the igniter, along the firewall and down under the passenger side floor into a grommet. It may not be the ideal path, but it works. And the MSD tach adapter is tucked up underneath the factory ECU kick guard.

I do not remember what I used for the 12V+ and Ground, but you should be able to figure that out.

Where on the tachometer did you run this to <Igniter Tach Output>? What pin, and/or wire? And did you cut the existing wire on the cluster?

no need for a tach adapter .the resistor is there ,you just have to take it apart to get to it,ive done it to mines

My Tech did not work after the 2JZ-GTE swap.
I had to get the same tech adapter.

all you have to do is take apart the cluster and bypass resistor r2 for the rpm to work

Is that still the case if your car was a Auto originally and convertered to a 6spd? I have a 97 with a usdm gte and v160 swap.

being auto or manual will not cause the tach not to work .but if you did not bypass this resistor the tach will never work .i never did a 2jzgte swap but the only thing that will cause it not to work other than the resistor is a wire being in the wrong place

Can you PM me, my problem is this... when your driving the Speedometer follows the tach and what I mean is if your driving hard.. and lets say the car's rpm is climbing 3k-4k-5k-6k-7k the speedometer will follow by going 30-40-50-60 and so... any suggestions?

Don't know how to help on the speedometer...but if you can't get that resistor trick to work, I can help you with the other tach wiring method.

My tach is working fine, but my speedo goes buzzerk regardless of what you do...and it was fine before the 2jz-gte and v160 swap. Any ideas, anyone?
