5W-30, castrol non-synth. no probs.

just out of curiosity for the synthetic guys, how often do you change the oil? Do you get those extended milage oils (10,000-15,000 miles)? and how long have you been using them? srry if this is a bit of a thread jackin...

Heck no!

I use Royal Purple and I still change oil between 3000-4000 miles. No sense taking that chance for a few dollars saved.

royal Purpal or Red Line < proven to be the top two, mobile on is actualy not that good. There was the test and the chepo 79c stuff beat mobile 1 after hearing about this i switched to royal purpal from Mobil 1 and change it every 3000K.

Personally i disapprove of those "extended milage" oils. Heard that they do more harm than good. Didnt know what the opinon was here, but now i do. thx though....might be pickin up some purple if i decide to go turbo......

Please show me where this test is...

www.bobistheoilguy.com

Mobil1, Castrol, Redline and Royal Purple ALWAYS get the best UOA's (not that I care a ton about UOA's, they just back up what I've always thought and done) If you really follow the UOA stuff, the German Castrol oil (it looks kinda green) is actually the "best"

For me, it's Mobil1 every 5000 miles... (10W-30)

The only difference between standard oil and extended performance is the amount of detergents in the oil itself... Personally, I use extended performance, and still change it every 5000 miles (or prior, depends on my mood)... In my wifes car, I use Castrol Syntec 10W-30 and do the same, 5000 mile intervals...

I believe mobil1 recently changed their formula or something along those lines that somewhat degraded the quality. I personally don't know of any specific tests but this is just what I've heard through the grapevine.

yes, again, its just the level of detergents that changes between them...

$10 for how much oil? a gallon? if so, that is SUPER cheap!
