Installed intake...now car wants to stall?
So I made myself a SRI and it was working perfect, in fact so far it's the best gas mileage I've gotten thus far. However; I painted the piping yesterday and put everything back together and occasionally when I start the car it idles really low and is sporadic. Sometimes it feels like it wants to stall and when I give it gas it struggles a bit. After a few minutes of driving it evens out. I reset the ECU and checked all the connections. Do you think it could be paint dust being sucked in through the throttle body? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

maybe the cars getting to much air? i think thats what happened to me when i removed that "honeycomb like" filter behind my airbox after bfi...put it back in and no probs. i would only stall out if i just started the car, or accelerated really fast and then stopped.. the rpms would drop to about 500-250, then the car would stall

Don't remove the honeycomb. Its there to smoothen out the air as it passes through the sensor so it gets a stable reading.

check if your maf is plugged in properly what pipe diameter did you use? what size cone filter did you use? got pics of your intake? |
I'll get some pics shortly. Piping is just under 3" (3" coupler fits it perfectly). The filter is a 3" AEM dry flow. I'll get a picture to make some sense of it. The weirdest thing is, I have NEVER gotten a CEL from it.

Check out your MAF.

mine did the same thing all yesterday, i just gave up took out my CAI and put my BFI back in the stalls were'nt worth it and it was making my car hickup it was wierd. I got the same no check engine light or nothing just stalled out.

My SRT intake came with a little maf signal modifier deal that adjusts fuel to compensate for larger piping and more airflow. 98+ sc300s may be kind of sensitive to air fuel ratio changes or something maybe?

Marc, I think you may be right. I undid and re-tightened all the connections and drove it last night and all day today without any problems. I wouldn't remove it though, I lost some low end power but it feels much better throughout the rest of the power band. Sound difference is only at WOT. Well worth the small amount of money I spent. I'll get pictures when I'm not working during the day.

Pics of the intake
Here are some pics. I apologize for the blurryness. I was in a rush. I still need to change the reducer to black, it's the only 2.75-3" I had. I was going for a stock-ish look.

Yes sir that is the symptom of to much air mixing with the fuel...
