Default SC400 Power Steering Removal/Install FAQ ?

I've been searching for a week for a simple Power Steering PUmp removal/install FAQ with pictures.

It seems with the SC guys fall into one of two categories: Either they know everything don't need any help with anything or they Don't know what a power steering pump is and just take it to the dealer.
There are very few guys in the middle like myself: I catch on and learn very quickly and find out it wasn't rocket science - if i only knew it was that easy, i could've saved $600 bucks.

BackGround on my situation:
It reached mid-teens here in Memphis last week and my power steering pump started making noise. The fluids were low, there seem to be some leakage at the hose and pump. I filled it up and it has not leaked since. I have Not had steering problems at any time but the slightly high-pitch noise still remains. I've decided i want to do the change myself but I want to education myself on any special tips or tricks on the change out before I start.

Anyone know of an easy step by step walkthrough with pictures for changing out the power steering pump for the SC400 ?

Thanks,
MemphisDAve

I've run into the same problems myself here and had to do some extensive searching on both these forums and lexusownersclub.com as it appears that forum members are no longer willing to assist each other much anymore..

Here are some links I saved on the topic of the power steering pump removal and rebuild..

Power Steering Pump removal

Power steering pump rebuild

PS solenoid cleaning

It's for the LS but they are pretty much the same in setup to our SC's.

Hope this helps, dunno why it's not a sticky since I think there are many that would benefit from this info as opposed to searching the myriad of threads that may not contain all the necessary info.

So, It warmed up here in Memphis and went away all Spring, Summer and now we are into Fall and i've noticed it again on 50degree mornings. From my post above, when i check it when it was in the mid-teens, it was bone dry and I could see the classic places it leaked around the fittings. I put some P/S fluid in and it hasn't leaked since. It hasn't even been a problem until it hit the lower 50's. Assuming there was minor atl. damage from the original PS leak, I don't have any other way of really testing to make sure either the Atlernator or PS pump needs to be replaced - besides the electric whine 50'F or Below. I noticed it the other day when they had it in Valet at the Casinos in Tunica MS. They still had it in the main drive and it was more apparent standing outside from a distance.

Last night, I tried testing the Alternator by a simple dome light test. I left it on as i was on the phone for 20mins with the car at idle, park. - it occasionally flicker'd once or twice over the entire 20mins but nothing unusual. I check the steering. the car turns fine in park, it does not make any straining noises...and is nearly gone once its warmed up.

What causes this Whining noise? and Why is it only when it gets Cold?
I like to "listen" to my car to get the jump in case something is going bad.
Are there any other test that I can try to understand how much time I have before it needs to be replaced? ..its been fine since a week after i posted the orginal post back in Feb.

I moved to a downtown Loft/Apt. with private garage parking - It's a cool garage, but its going to be hard to work on her in a dim conditions. < if i need to change either component !

I checked the classifieds, Anyone know where i can get a Power steering Pump? the car steers perfect and has not leaked since I refilled it 1.5yrs ago.... Maybe its my Alternator slightly damaged from the inital leak?
It's 63'F today and I don't hear anything now...but when it's Cold outside, it sounds like a sewing Machine. Click the video below. It was a cold day when i shot that video.

Help Please
