Default 97 SC400 starts then dies!!!!

I purchased my 97 SC4 last October with 61, 000 miles. It has been great up until today. I now have 65,000 and when I went to start it today it started and then died. It started and immediately died 4 times. Then it wouldn't start for about 30 seconds. Pulled key out waited for about a minute while smelling gas. Put key back in and it started right up. It hasn't done it sense. Any ideas what I should look into first?

Thank you in advance for help you may have.

John

same thing happened to my old honda civic, it turned out to be a clogged fuel filter.

idle air control valve-controls your idling during a cold startup. the sensor may have carbon buildup and need cleaning. or it may be as simple as a fuel filter
