Default Finished R154 shifter extension mod for SC/Supra w/ PICS !

ok guys, I finally finished the extension for my R154 to fit in my MKIV. Only thing I have to do now is actually put the tranny in the car. I'm waiting on a few more parts though... flywheel, clutch, driveshaft, etc...

The hardest part was getting the correct angle on the shift lever.... but I tested all the gears and it shifts thru all of them so I should be good to go once I get this puppy in
anywho... here it is !

this is the only other one I have doing the fab work.
the part I have in the red box is where you need to file down a bit so when you put the shift lever thru there is more clearance.

Can you please post up the finished measurement, particularly the length, of the modded part for us?

edit: "us" meant SC300 owners before I learned this install was on the MKIV Sup...thanks MJHSC400

you mean what no one was willing to give me before I started this? hahaha, that's what took me so long.....

lengthened by 7 inches, but this is for an auto, i'm not changing out the sub-tunnel like some guys do so i'm not sure if that going to make a difference or not, It would help if someone with a manual could go under there car and get the measurement from the front of the bell housing to the center of their shifter. This way I will be able to tell if it needs to be a different length for a manual to manual swap.
thanks

it will work for both, at least the 300 anyway... i'm pretty sure a 1jz bellhousing will not bolt up to the sc400 v8

you can do it with a different bell from dellows, but as far as shifter placement, I don't know if your measurement will be the same for both--

300 vs 400 or 300 vs supra?
I don't see why it would be different for Supra and SC300 since they both use the same exact engine, trans, and driveshaft, not to mention the chassis is the same... tell you what, crawl under your car and measure from the front of the bellhousing to the center of your shifter thru the sub tunnel and i'll let you know if it will work.

The wheelbase of an sc is like 4" longer-- not the exact same chassis, just share alot of similarities

well, either way, it's really not that hard to figure out how long you need to lenghten the extension. this thread wasn't meant to say this is the exact measurement, nor did I claim it was. It was just to show everyone it can be done and has been done by a obviously from what your implying ... some shmuck.
oh, and by the way, since an R154 from a soarer is a direct bolt in for both the 300 and the supra i'm pretty sure it would be the same length for both cars. but what do i know...

Awesome work man.. Nobody is calling anyone a schmuck.. Someone asked what the measurement was, all I said was I wasn't sure, if you know different that's a different story, I was confused with the MA70 R154 needing modification, so if this modification corrects it for the Soarer and Supra, that's very cool.

Whoever is doing this should be competent enough to know (like yourself) what measurement to lengthen it to, but experience like yours definitely paves the way more clearly for others interested in this sort of conversion for various cars, namely the slugbox SC400--

If the fitment is perfect for an SC300 that's awesome, and I hope it is, and it also looks like you know what's up with fabrication.

My hat is off to you, and sorry for the misunderstanding, I've got nothing but positive things to say about your work and I didn't ever think you were claiming this to be a solution to anything but an MK4, as you never said it was anything but that.

If they're all the same length that's news to me, and I'm a noob anyhow, sorry if I seemed like I was trying to say you were claiming anything different.

Beautiful work man

no worries, all I can go buy is what i've hear/read. And I know for a fact that the soarer R154 is a direct bolt in for both so sorry for getting defensive. I'm just trying to help out the community. VIPsoarer gave me the inspiration to do this about a year ago on a W58 and I haven't seen anyone else do it for the R154 w/ a 1JZ bellhousing except Boostlogic and they were not helpful at all. So I just wanted to show everyone it can be done and it's really not that hard. Only real problem is that most people don't have access to a Tig to weld aluminum and every machine shop I took mine to and told them what I wanted done they all said they wouldn't touch it. So I was just hoping to give others the inspiration VIPsoarer gave me
