What about Valve Seals??? Smoking SC400--
Hey guys--
I'm just wondering if it would be a good assumption to think that you could replace only the exhaust valve guide seals and be able to remedy most if not all of the smoking on start up----
Any comments on the validity of this idea??
The reason I think this may be possible is that the exhaust valve is by far the hotter valve, and this makes me think that those seals are the ones that take the worst beating, being the first culprit to wear out and cause smoking on startup=--
PLUS-- those are the easisest to get to in a 1UZ motor-- by far-- I was just looking at my compression gauge, and you can remove the head from it and plug it directly into the air hose on your compressor, so you can pressurize the cylinder while you disassemble the valve spring retainer and remove the spring to install the new seals----
This is something I wouldn't be totally against tackling on a Saturday-- only 16 seals shouldn't be too expensive or too awfully bad to replace--

Is this due to the suction the intake stroke creates being more likely to ingest oil into the combutsion chamber?
That seems to make sense, but I'd love to hear more opinions/experiences to back up any claims----
I guess to remove the intake cams one would have to remove the accessories and the timing cover too right?? Or is there a trick to the tensioner like an SR20???
Any more answers would be great!
Thanks for the input--
