Turbo is too much what? Money or power? Or both?
Supercharge an SC400 and then tell me how much money you've got after you do it. I'd be interested.
The best most direct answer here is that a turbo setup can turned down to as little as 5 psi. and yield a modest gain and be safe on the stock fuel system with safc and stock ecu ignition curve...
A supercharger is a little harder to detune-- you would have to replace a pulley, instead of turning a **** or entering a value.. The supercharger is more likely to need a FPR and make more power than a 5 psi turbo setup... While potentially costing a LOT more..
If all you want to do is have more fun -- A t/c and Auto Supra TT lsd would be my first suggestion, and I'm kinda partial to a BFI, Tex headers [cheapest and best in my opinion] and a custom 2.25" header back exhaust with an x-pipe and no cat's .. Add an SAFC-- maybe a reground exhaust cam, and you got a nice setup for a relatively small amt. of money, considering you're a broke 10th grader...
All that should be good for close to 310 hp @ the crank-- +/- 15% depending on your exhaust and tune and BFI job..

The Tex Long tube headers [long tubes are considered by many hot rodders and drag racers to be the only true style of header]
rushimports.com
The australian dollars convert to like $550 shipped, so they are not only the on ly long tubes available for the SC, they're also the best priced as well.
All types of headers will improve performance, but it is argued and arguable that long tube's are the very best header design--
When you get these you need to consider that you will need to have a full header back exhaust built for them-- and you need to get an x-pipe-- Jegs seems to have the fairest price here.
You should be able to find a shop in your town to build this custom header back setup with an x-pipe and some good mufflers like magnaflows or borla's for a decent price..
Exhaust work is a science but it's more like plumbing and less like rocket science.. These headers and a good exhaust setup with an x-pipe should net you 20 rwhp or so..
The BFI should net a solid 10 whp gain, although I wouldn't automatically assume that the headers and intake together will provide 30 whp...
But according to rush it should be close to that.. If you do your intake right and a good shop builds a good exhaust for you...
Lextreme.com does the t/c rebuild for $179-- resetting the stall to 2800, and that along with the intake/exhaust should wake your car up like it was asleep.
other companies offer the same service on the t/c for nearly $800 or more, and these guys stand behind their work.
A supra NA auto LSD is a 4.10 if i'm not mistaken, and the whole rear unit bolts up the the driveshaft, subframe, and axles-- THAT is a mod worth doing, and shouldn't be more than $700 and maybe less if you find it in the right place at the right time.. You could get the help of a friend and do that one yourself -- but you want to use the right torque specs on all the fasteners when doing something like that, but it's not that difficult to do.
The LSD and t/c may well be the very best bang for the buck-- though not changing horsepower at all, your 0-60 will be hugely affected-- the difference will be night and day -- it will really help get you into the curve where it make power much quicker-- The lower the gear the better for an n/a car-- and if you're doing mostly city driving, your gas mileage will improve with those three mods in town-- if you drive like a granny. Which you won't.

The only problem with supercharging the Sc's is their lack of engine bay space..They simply will not fit under the hood everytime...The Eaton chargers are stream lined to barely fit our SC's...A paxton charger wouldn't stand a chance, too tall.....Sorry pal...Go with a single Garret turbo for the SC4's or you can break the bank and get a $5000 Eaton m90 charger from Australia...

not paxton use a procharger they have a universal import tuner kit that is very cheap and comes with charger, universal bracket, intercooler and some piping that you have to cut and weld yourself plus some other things very worth it IMO procharger is deffinatly the best

That one uses the c1 charger that is suitable for around a 2 liter engine, the C2 is what we'd need, as well as a fuel/timing controller-- like a split second or emanage....
Still around $3000 for parts-- but a LOT of power for the money..
