Default Got new motor mounts.. dont think theyre properly installed

I used to have a slight vibration at certain RPMS, not bad. i figured id change the motor and tranny mounts. So i did. the left mount was broken. NOW i get HUGE vibrations at IDLE <-- NEVER ONCE happend before. the whole car just rattles. i had the guy put it back up on the hoist to look at and everything. he claims that its not the mounts because theyre new. and it clunks wen i start and shut it off which also NEVER used to happen. i mean one mount was busted and it still didnt do this. he claims that you cant over tighten them. but maybe something stupid like that might be causing the extra vibes?.. ANYONE PLEASE!! let me know. annoys the crap outta me.. spend money and get more problems. thank you

By you description it sounds like the vibration was there before but you just didnt feel it as much because the mount was broke. So the motor was just vibrating around in the engine bay without sending those vibrations through the motor mounts to the chassis for you to feel.

Does it idle smoothly.
Does it run smoothly through the full RPM range?

You can technically "overtighten" anything...if it's not at the proper torque setting it may cause problems, but none to this nature.

This sounds like what lffers stated, it's probably a vibration that was actually there before and wasn't felt due to the broken mount.

OR, you could have unfortunately bought SOLID mounts vice more cushioned mounts like rubber, and you will NOW feel EVERY vibration in your engine....

When it idles, its REALLY BAD.. the whole car just goes ZZZZZZZZZZZzZzZZZ... and it revs up just past idle the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ goes away and its pretty smooth. and when i turn on the car it like CLUNKS. they are OEM motor mounts, RUBBER. right around when its reved up to 2-3k, i can start to feel it in the wheel.

Eliminate the guessing.

Have the engine put on an analysis machine at a good independent repair establishment. Could be a single cylinder problem; spark plug wire, injector control wiring, or something stressed when the engine was lifted to clear for the new mounts.

how long have u had the mounts in cuz the rubber may take a little while to break in. and i have solid mounts on my old saturn and it vibrates at idle. but i would be worried if u can still feel the vibration at speed.

The clunk might be your rear diff mount? Was a common problem with celica's like the one I used to have and it clunked just about everytime I shifted until I replaced the mount.
