Default reducing the weight of our cars

I have ran this thread before, and am putting it under the engine section because the more unnessary weight we can jettison, the faster we can go with the same amount of horsepower. I am going to buy a 0-50 pound scale and will post the weight of whatever I remove. I know a c.f. hood is a big weight savings, but pricey and then what do you do with a perf. good stock colored hood.

I use my car for an every otherday driver, got to keep the seats for the wife, and the spare tire and toolkit for me. I have replaced the stock mufflers with magnaflows which are smaller and lighter. I have heard the cd changer in trunk is pretty heavy, I willing to lose it. Also trac cont.

3lb cd changer isnt going to help a 3600lb car much. From my experience either be ready to go all out or not at all. You wont reduce the weight much unless you're really ready to give up some stuff.

I was hoping for closer to 10 on the cd changer, also when the hyd. fan goes bad, I believe you can loose a lot of weight and gain space with a dual elec. fan.

You can lose 5,000 lbs by selling the car and buying a sports car instead of a luxury car.

i just installed a CF trunk, and i'm waiting for the hood to come in.

trunk w/ deck spoiler weighed about 25 lbs
trunk liner is 2 lbs
cf trunk weighed 12 lbs
thats 15 lbs

things ive removed so far:
cd change
amp
sub/amp
fog lights & harness
lighter rims
headunit (stock unit is big/heavy)

planned:
hood comes next week (i expect it to reduce 15-20 lbs, maybe more)
custom trunk designed for weight reduction (estimate about 10-15 lbs)
custom battery w/ tray (estimate about 30-40 lbs)
rotora 2piece rotors front/rear
light weight 18s
stage 2 gutting
full exhaust headers back

with the above i feel more than 200 lbs can be shed from the car. maybe more. that's actually pretty good. my plan is to get the car down to about 3300 with full interior.

I just weighed mine since i had it sitting next to me when i read this post. I am surprised. I thought to myself....no way its close to 10#s. But you were pretty close.
It weighs 8#s. And thats with no magazine or CDs either.
Its still not going to yeild much benefit. If you want to get rid of it and wont miss it, no ones stopping you.
But I would go a different route to drop weight . IE replacing the drivers and possibly passengers seat with a lighter seats, and the losing the spare tire. Either of those reductions are 30-40#s plus.
Also if you are someone that tends to keep things in the trunk or back seat. Dejunking the car , by cleaning it out will help alot.

I like a lean and clean ride as far as any junk, point well made. Ive got to come up with things other than seats and spare. Keitlander makes a good point of increasing h.p., but I want to be as light as possible within current budget. The lighter the car the better it takes sharp 40 mph curves under power.

Get the PS2's, or if you're really going to be tracking it the Pilot Sport Cups.
You said lightweight 18's, look into the Flik Artics, they are cheap and light.

Otherwise try RAC Monolite or HRE Comp's.

General rule of thumb...For every 100 pounds lighter a car is it will be 1/10 of a second faster in the 1/4 mile. Lose 1,000 pounds and you'll gain 1 second.

Not worth it imo, but to each their own. I stripped my last car down pretty far. Ultimately I ended up missing some of the luxuries. I've also aged some though, so that may be part of it. The main reasons I bought an SC3 was for the nice creature comforts and the ability to be fast with them.
