Rough auto trani engage from P-D & D-R
Sorry to post this on the SC forum but I am desperate for some answers.
I have a '99 Rx300 and recently found temperamental when shifting from Drive to Reverse, or Reverse to Drive... I get the same symptoms as if its a slight Neutral drop... What could be causing this? Car has 138,000km and has had 2 trani drain and fills since I had it, each time fluid was not burnt or dark. Otherwise when driving it shifts perfectly and gives me no other sideeffects.. Here's a question for the more experienced members: Just curious but, when I recently replaced my sparkplugs, I accidentally lost my 10mm ratchet peice behind the engine when doing the middle rear plug. I never did recover it under the car, and thought nothing of it since I suspected it would roll off the trani housing eventually. The Mrs. has been driving the car since and only recently have I noticed this rough engagement from a stop... Question: Could the 10mm ratchet peice have fallen somewhere behind engine and in such a position that it could occasionally cause a cable when shifting gears to bind, resulting in this "neutral drop effect" ??? I hope some of the more experience members could comment on what happens to linkages or cables when shifting through the gears from D to R or P to D, D to R, etc.. Any possible spots something this small could have fallen to cause this problem?:uh: I'm curious for suggestions as I don't want to wait until Tuesday when the car goes to the dealership to be put on a hoist. Thanks in advance, Fernando |

Hi,
no stall when going into park, just a forward jerk or jolt when shifted from park to reverse or reverse into drive or drive into reverse. Anyway head tech at Toyota dealership diagnosed it as failed internal trani component. Suggested rebuild kit at $2800 labour and material CAD... Don't know what other options I have. Very dissapointed with my first Lexus though... |
maybe its a tranny mount....mine clunks real loud going into gear and lurches forward or back when changing into gears.....i need to cahnge my mounts....

Huh...once in a blue moon when i shift from reverse to drive the whole car would jolt a bit, but this doesnt happen that often.

I'd also check your ATF levels... when I had my SC400, I remember some issues when the ATF was not to spec.
