Newbie Needs Help!!! 1992 Sc300
Just purchased my 1992 Lexus Sc300 5-Speed. Its in really nice shape and motor runs strong although it has 235,XXX miles. I want to do a motor swap. I am leaning towards 2JZ-GTE but the 1JZ is not out of mind. I will need some help from you guys to get her running smoothly. I would like to know what i will face doing either swap in ways of transmission and driveshaft, im guessing stock mounts, and was wondering about wiring. I also have one problem that is not swap related. The steering wheel has a lot of play when going straight, if you turn it a bit it will turn correctly, but not too sure. I believe there is a minor leak, but fluid level is fine, havent gotten into finding leak. Any advice, information, tips, and solutions will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem, the steering has too much play, even when the car is off. The second question is that I also have a 1992 SC300 5-speed. I want to do 2JZ swap but can't afford it. I would like to do the 1JZ swap which is cheaper for the engine. I was wondering if i do the 1JZ swap can i still keep my 2JZ 5-speed tranny? Would it bolt up with the 1JZ engine.? Sorry to bud in to your post, trying to kill to birds with one stone.

The steering problem sounds like your steering rack bushing. Do a search on 2j and 1j swaps. There is a lot of info out there but you just have to find it. Also check out clubna-t and supraforums. Yes, the 2j 5speed will bolt up to the 1j.

This isn't some honda where you "swap" an engine and harness.
Just trying to give you fair warning but if you are going to be a rudeass, why even come here asking for help in the first place.

As you've probably learned, MANY SC300 owners have successfully swapped to 2jzgte turbos. In my opinion, as a non-professional backyard hobbyist, the swap IS an easy one... the engine (identical to the SC300 as far as lower end is concerned) bolts right in to existing mounts, and YES, either the 1jz or 2jz WILL bolt right up to the stock 5-speed.
