Default HELP!! Fan belt snapped!

Earlier today, I tried to start my car and initially the car wasn't starting. So I popped the hood and had my brother try to start it up again. The engine did start with a very low RPM, but just as I was looking at the fan belt, it snapped

Luckily my car is still at home safe in the garage but my question is, can I still drive this car to a shop?? What exactly is the fan belt connected to? I'm pretty sure it is also connected to the AC compressor, but is there anything vital? Thanks for the help guys.

your alternator will not charge the battery. the car will run like crap or not run at all w/o electricity.

Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a new serpentine belt. It should be under $50. Look under you hood and you should see a diagram of how the belt should go. Use a wrench as shown in the pic below to loosen the tensioner so you can get the belt over it. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the help guys and to 5spdSC300O for providing the diagram. I just bought the Goodyear serpentine belt from Kragen for $30 and I'm going to put it on tomorrow.

Actually, my alternator went out before and what happened was that basically nothing worked inside my car like the radio, horn, power steering, ac. The car was drivable, but it was idling VERY low. Once I got that replaced, everything was ok
