Review: C's knock-off short shifter
I'm sure some of you know that there are only 2 short shifters available for the 95+ W58 transmissions.
Your choices are: TRD or C's I was told that the TRD unit kinda sucks, and by looking at the pictures, I had to agree. (the 6-8 week wait for it to come in from Japan blows as well) C's makes a superior kit, but it's expensive as hell ($360+) and only one company carries them. I just picked up a C's replica on eBay for just shy of $100. I've installed it this weekend and my first impression is that the kit is superb. The shifts are a lot shorter and the knob sits a good inch lower than stock. Linky Clicky It doesn't come with any installation instructions, but if you are somewhat logical, you should have no problems figuring it out. Plus I'm here to help. I would post pictures but my knob is embarrasingly tore up. Maybe I'll get a pic with the knob that came with the kit. Enjoy! Cheers, ~Alan |
Great post Alan,
I've been looking for one for sometime now...I just purchased it from your link, I'll PM you if I have any questions.   I hate the factory shifter, it sits so high and the throw is so long. Thanks tann |
awesome. a decent alternative to cutting & welding the stock shifter :)
PS: I moved this to the engine & tranny section... seemed a little more fitting! |

Thanks tann According to your signature, your SC is a 93. I think this shifter only works on the 95+ W58 equipped SCs. (it's in my post) Please double check it and see if you can cancel your order in case it won't work. If not, you can sell it to the next person that's interested in one. If you have another SC that's 95+, you're ok. Cheers, ~Alan |
So the factory knob works with this short shifter? Who cares about how your knob looks...show us some pics :)

Hey Alan,
Thanks for the heads up...and yes I did read your post about the 95+ but I cross referenced the part number and it is different but it looks like it'll work, it being an aftermarket kit. we'll see, if not, I'll just sell it (or by a 95+ SC) LOL :D |

Do you know if it will fit the R154?
|
no the r154 shifter is way different
|
supposedly (according to translated online part # listings) the R154 had a change in 95 or w/e as well, but iunno.
i'm running an older R154 |
Yes, the stock knob fits right on the short-shifter. Same thread.
I took a few pics. With the knob that came with the short-shifter: http://my.opera.com/SPORTcoupe/homes...9/IMG_4711.JPG With stock(beat-up) dildo knob: http://my.opera.com/SPORTcoupe/homes...9/IMG_4713.JPG Stock shifter: http://my.opera.com/SPORTcoupe/homes...9/IMG_4078.jpg ~Alan |
<hands Alan the July 2006 SC300 CL Noble Prize contribution award!> Excellent find Alan, and thanks for the pics. I actually like the stock "dildo knob" look. I will also be picking one of these up :). :woot:
