Can I use mid grade gas?
I was wondering if it is ok to use mid grade gas or just stick with premium gas only?
|
Premium, man. Don't do it because you HAVE to.. do it because you love your car. ;)
|
Hell yea, thats the attitude I love.
|
lol I run low grade. Only when I want her to go fast I do 91. Way back in the day one of my buds did a science fair project on pump gas and very few stations here in colorado are actully 91. Ussualy high grade was around 88, 86. Yeah I know its not smart, but the sonner my engine gives out the sonner I can justify striping her down and doing a 1jz or 2jz gte.

Wait are there places that actually sell 91 gas? On the east coast where i've been, it's always 87,89 and 93. IDK wjy we even have 89. All car manufacturers hav a recommendation of 87 or 91, and very few spec 93 in the manual right? I would make a fortune selling 87,91,93 octane gas.

There's stations here in Ohio that have 87, 89, 91, 92, 93, and 94 octane. It just depends which stations have which. The one's I usually go to have 93 and that's what I usually put in my SC.

In CA, the best we get is 91 :(
If you guys are running turbo cars, you should and MUST run 91 or better. Especially during the summer when its hot. Using a higher octane gasoline does not make your car go faster. It just helps it resist detonation. |

Also, TJ Lex, don't be cheap. Give your car the good stuff. ;) |
If you guys think using low grade gas is expensive, try daily driving with 100 octane....
|
Why would you daily drive with 100?
|
89 and a can of BOOST 105 octane additive will help out the Cali guys.

Do those octane boosters really work? They say it raises your octane by 8 points or whatever, means you now have 91.8, instead of just 91. I heard good things about toulene, but never tried it myself. I was pinging a lot on my other car with stock intercooler during the summer. I was using a 50/50 mixture of 91 and 100, giving me about 95 octane. Yes it was expensive, but this was like 2yrs ago, and gas then was a lot cheaper than it is now.
I still see no need for 100 octane everyday. If your car is pinging w/o 100 octane, you need to keep your RPM's lower for the street, retard your timing, or detune your car for street purposes. |
