Post 1uz-fe over 2jz-gte???

[FONT=Arial]why do so many sc400 owners swapping their 1uz-fe engine for a 2jz-gte?? i dont see what the point of doing this is. first of all the 2jz-gte engine pumps out 220-225 hp without turbo while the 1uz-fe engine pumps out 250-290 depending on the year the engine is. so basically without turbo the 2jz-gte pumps out less horses which makes sense its only got 6cylinders compared to the 8 in the 1uz-fe. and honestly you can turbo ne car pretty much. with the amount of money people are spending on the 2jz-gte engine and in most cases people get bigger turbos for the 2jz-gte compared the the turbo that comes stock. and then youd maybe spend money on a new tranny. you could instead use the 4-5gran that youd spent on the 2j engine on turbo or even supercharging your sc400. i mean i understand that the supra can beat a sc400 in a race but swapping the engine isnt really going to help your sc400 go faster is it? i mean part of the reason the sc400 looses is because its heavier.

i would like to hear the opions and arguments from both sides of the argument.(not trying to attack ppl with the 2jz-gte engines just a question)[/FONT

2jz-gte is a twin turbo version of the 2jz-ge, the GTE is rated at 300 I believe and can make crap loads of power for less $ and there are alot more aftermarket goodies for a 2j then a 1uz.

If im not mistaken the sc300's and 400's weigh about the same. And the GTE makes about 320 i believe. Aftermarket support is the key to your answer bud. Although im stickin with the 1uz, its gonna take off soon hopefully.

The 1uz aftermarket support is slowly getting stronger but no where near where the 2jz is at. I believe that a swap(gte) is better for a 300 the 400 has a very capable platform to begin on.

first off, no one swaps in a 2jz without the turbos. a 2jz without the turbos in an SC is what you call an sc300

second, the limits of the 2jz-gte are basically endless. the aftermarket is huge and the knowledge base about the motors is even larger. It is true you can turbo any car, but the strength of the 2jz motor cant be touched...i mean...the block is iron and not just aluminum...and you wonder why the cars weigh about the same. and even then, the weight differences are negligible.

third, not many people swap the gte into the 400. it gets pretty complicated since the crossmember is different as well as several other things. the swap is basically plug and play aside from some wiring into the sc300.

fourth, my NON turbo sc made 180rwhp after 14 years of use. a friends sc400 made i think it was 202rwhp. another friends supra with just a boost controller, intercooler and exhaust made close to 400rwhp. the potential is all in the engine. if you really wanted to save some money, you could turbo the sc300 motor for a couple thousand bucks and end up with 300-400rwhp AND be able to daily drive it.

theres a wealth of knowledge out there if you take a minute to read up on it first. turboing the 1uz turns into alot of work real quick when you consider there is basically no aftermarket support for it. youll end up with a whole lot of custom work and a big bill. either way power is expensive.

If you want to swap 2jz gte into Sc400 you do not need to change the cross member. All you have to do is change the engine mount and mount bracket to sc300 then the motor should be right in. But SC400 swap do cost more money and more work than sc300 still.

No.
look into the differences between a V8 and an I6 and also do some research on how turbochargers work before you start considering taking on a project

www.howstuffworks.com
they have a pretty good article on the basics of a turbo

No, a twin turbo setup on a V8 would most likely have the turbo's in parallel, not series. And almost nothing from a 2JZ is interchangeable with a 1UZ (except for maybe the MAF, it can be used on the 2JZ, but really only with MKIII 440cc injectors or a piggyback fuel controller).

But honestly, it seems that you really don't know much about the mechanics of these things (we were all there at one point). Your best bet is to just read read read....and wrench wrench wrench (that's how I learned).

You should really start attending some carmeets/shows, talk to people, and learn. Too many basic questions being answered here.

Back to the question at hand im yet to see a 1UZ make upwards of 1000hp as easy as the 2jz-GTE can do it. That point alone should be enough.
