Default Car puts out ridiculous amount of heat.

1994 sc400, 90k miles

car runs fine, smoothly, no problems, but puts out an INSANE amount of heat. Hood, quarter panels, and parts of doors all become too hot to touch, and if the ac isnt running, the cabin gets uncomfortably hot from heat radiating from the floor and wheelwells. Temp guage doesnt ever go past middle, however. Car also gets ****ty gas mileage (16 highway).

I did a spark plug, oil & filter change yesterday just because it needed it. I'm planning on removing the front end and cleaning the radiator of debris, and then doing a full flush of the cooling system today.

Ideas on other stuff I'd check? I've heard the thermostat can go out or a faulty water pump, but I think i'd see the guage move.

called the local dealership... tech said the first thing he'd be suspiscious of is a faulty cat causing a lot of backpressure, bad gas mileage, and heat. only way to know is to take it off and look.

anyone ever done this by hand? i'd imagine i'd need something other than a basic toolkit.

To remove the cat you would need to cut it off....thats what i did, but not for the same reason, i removed mine for better flow, plus we dont have emissions here, so its cool.

There are bolts on both sides...The cats can be removed by themselves, unless they are rusted and fused into the flanges. I know they can be removed because I removed them from my SC for my TT project.
