Default A/T to M/T Swap Questions

[B]If you can answer this question please share the information with me.
How difficult is it to transform an 97 + SC300 Auto to a 97+ SC300 Standard transmission?
Can A 97+ power train be put into a 92?
Are the ECUs interchangeable?

I totaled my 97 SC300 6spd turbo and can't find a donor car to do a swap.[B]

everything drivetrain wise is interchangeable, ecu's may not be. I am not totally positive but since you will be swapping over the majority of the parts from the 97, you could save a lot more money by going with an older SC. for the swap from 97 auto to 97 manual you will need to swap over the brake pedal and clutch pedal assemblies and clutch master and slave cylinder and obviously trannsmission, driveshaft and differential, and you will need to bypass the neutral safety switch if you are using the auto ecu. that should be about it.
good luck

Did you do that 6speed swap on your totaled SC yourself? If so you should have a pretty good idea of how difficult or easy it might be. Swapping in a 5speed is more cheaper of course. If you will be swapping in a 97 ECU into a 92 SC300 I think it might be a bit different because the 92 is OBD1 and he 97 uses OBD2. Also, Yes a 97 powertrain can be put into a 92. All the parts are the same. Good luck with your conversion.

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling the ECUs were not be interchangeable. I guess I will still look for a 97+ because the ECU I have has the Gforce upgrade. I guess to drive the bigger injectors on the bigger fuel rail. Well at least I can start looking at all 97+ SC300s now. i thought the conversion from auto to standard would be nutty.

So theres no drilling or cutting to get the clutch pedals and all that to fit?

There is some drilling and cutting of the trans tunnel for the 6 speed to fit. If you look in my picture gallery, you can see where I had to cut for the 6 speed. The auto trans hole is super small and the 6 speed has this a arm that comes up. It's not very hard and you can purchase the 5 speed upper tunnel for $150 from Lexus. I didn't get one, but made my own. My friend bought one for his and drilled out the spot welds and used liquid nails to put the new one in.

As for cutting for the clutch pedal, theres a template on all auto SCs that you can follow. There are 2 mouting holes and one hole in the center. Just use a hole saw and you will be find. You will also have to drill a hole and use a bolt on the assembly for bracing. As soon as you cut out the template and bolt on the clutch master cylinder and pedal, you will see where you have to drill the other hole.

Also, did you ever think about going standalone? You wont have any problems with swapping your whole swap into and year SC if you have an AEM EMS or similar.

Detuned,
I tried to look at your photos but I cant see 'em.

What's standalone?

I'm OK with most stuff mechanically. I have rebuilt a four cylender engine from a long block once. Worked fine. Never did much tranny or clutch. Braking systems are a breeze. Head work fuel system, the basics are no prob. I have the SC300/400 manual on cd rom.

I don't have a lift and will be working out of my garage so I will be outsourcing 80% of all the work. Engine, trans, and Rear end will be done all at once by a shop for $1500.
Thats to pull them from the wrecked SC and put them into the Donor car.

I'll be left with the salvage and the whole drive train from the donor car which I plan to sell ASAP.

It would be Soooooooooooo much easier to find a donor car if I can use an automatic.

There are just no 97 5 Spd's out there. Non-Salvaged.

Then I read you can convert an AT to a MT
