Any ever try a LS1 swap?

Hi guys! Just curious if anyone has ever tried an LS1/LS6 swap?

I know about the 1j, 2j and even RB swaps that have been done to the SCs, but what about the LSx engine?

I have done a SR20DET into a S13 4 or 5 years ago, very fun car. I am 29 and have been working on cars since I was 15, so I'm not a complete idiot, atleast I don't think so. :D

It just seems I could build a lighter NA (so no turbo stuff) and cheaper engine going with an LSx.

So has anyone done this yet or am I going to be the first?

Be the first!!!! I dont care what anyone says about it, it would be great. After seing my buddies drop one into their 2nd and 3rd gen RX-7's, and a s13 240sx I would say that the ls1 is one of the best general use motors. The ls1 looked like it was made for the rx7 once in place. With it sitting well behind the steering rack, making close to 50/50 weight, and having excellent torque you cant go wrong. http://www.shockdrifting.com/articles/view.php?id=66

why do u need an ls1?? any one whose ever heard my car in person will tell you that the 2j sounds much deeper and meaner than any ls1 does also makes plenty more power

1JZ=$1000........ and proven to be easy.
LS1=???????$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

A complete LS1 and gearbox can be had for $2500 and on up depending on year and milage.

Mikethe1st, yeah I have seen an LS1 in a FD and was amazed how well it fit. It looked like it fit better than in the vette. The ride was even more amazing. :eek2:

Trying to see if this is worth the time and energy.

1)How much does the 1jzgte weight, including all turbo parts and plumbing?

2)How much do you guys figure it would cost to get 450hp out of a 1jzgte?

Thanks!

2JZ is an awesome motor, BUT! you can't get a 2JZ to sound deeper and meaner than an LS1 :p

Go for it. Think of the meaty power band of a V8. How sweet it is! To bad I just love the boost effect a little more, nothing sounds sweeter than the sound of the turbo spoolin'.

2500 for an LS1 and trans though? You must mean a high miles 98 LS1 with a 4L60E. Good LS1s usally go for 2500 alone and an extra grand for a T56 trans. Don't try to convince us it will be a cheap swap, because it will not be cheap. even more so when you can get boosted for about 1500 bucks. 1JZ head on stock block = poor mans 2JZ.

It amazes me how difficult it is for people to think outside the box.
Any suggestion of beeing different and trying new stuff is simply shot down.

i dont think they are turned off by the imagination of these things, its just that they are trying to help others out and save them money. hell, if they have the cash, than by all means, but whatever you want under there, and ill love it... just no rotorys please. :p

i agree we are just informing people of what they are doing. i fully back 0100 if he really wants to do it, but he need to hear all the sides of the problem before he does it.
hey 0100 do it if you can, don't if your not sure.

I think it is a great idea, one I have had myself. The Toyota combinations are proven but so is high power LSx engines. One thing you can NOT easily do in a Toyota engine is go over 5 liters. The LS1 starts at 5.65 liters, LS2 is 6.0 liters, LS7 is 7 liters and there are available combinations to 7.5 liters. A 6-7 liter engine with a mild cam would make awesome low speed torque and drivability and still give decent gas mileage.

An LS1 motor in our cars would be definitely interesting. I love the way they sound at idle... just beautiful. It'd probably be too much for a conversion though.

Wow thanks guys for all the great info.

It looks like this hasn't been done yet so that sucks.

I'm still thinking about doing this, it's just going to be a lot more time, energy, and money since it's never been done before. Problem$ will arise.

I am still trying to see if there is an advantage to go with the LSx, so could you guys answer some questions. I know search, I'm off to do that right now. :)

1)How much does the 1j/2j weight with all turbo stuff?
2)How much would it cost to get 450-500hp out of a 1j or 2j?
3)If I sold these how much could I get for:
a)1UZ-FE (8cyl)
b)2JZ-GE (I6)
c)A343E (Auto gearbox)
d)W58 (5-spd gearbox)

First I would try to buy a SC(on the cheap) with a blown engine, but these engines seem to last a long time. So my other option is to sell off the drivetrain, that is the reason for question #3.
