Default What clutch are you turbo guys running?

I'm down to picking up the final parts before getting started on my 1JZ swap... yes, it took me long enough! I'm having a hard time deciding which clutch to purchase for our cars. I searched the forums, and could only find a few posts complaining about random uncommon problems, and a lot of questions on people installing a clutch in a stock SC300.

I was curious for those with either a 1JZ or 2JZ turbo... how much power are you pushing, what clutch do you have installed, and any general comments? I will be running the stock 1JZ while making sure everything is working right... then hope to upgrade to around 400-500hp at the end of next year. Basically, I guess I'm looking for a clutch that will handle a wide range of power, and at the same time not be EXTREMELY rough to drive.

Also, are you running an upgraded flywheel? The general idea I get is that it is not necessary and I could probably spend my money better elsewhere... but if it's better for the SC3 I might just have to buy it!

Thanks guys!

iam swapping to the 1jz.. and i picked tghe CLutch Masters stage 3 clutch.. FOr some reason i cant think about using ACT or Centerforce.

CLutch Masters cheapest i found was 485.00 plus shipping

sad thing is. The clutch masters warehouse/Headquarters is like a 5min drive for me. But they want too much..

they told me like 595.00 with only a 5% discount already applied

I have heard good things about the RPS Max clutch. A little under $400 for one too. That is what I am going with when I go NA-T.

I have a RPS Street Strip 6 puck. The pedal is nice and light and it holds on strong. Any clutch with upgrades for power is going to be more aggressive. You will just need to use a little more gas when leaving from a stop. It takes a day to get used to and that's about it. No chatter at all which I like. I had a SPEC III in my last car and it chattered badly. The one thing I didn't like about the RPS was how long it took to break in. It took about a full 1000 miles. Overall I'm happy with it. I got mine from Ryan at WOTM.

Oh alright... I'll definatley look into that clutch then. I'm used to an ACT 2100 on my old DSM... it actually leaves you hurting after driving it for a while... but I think it's just due to the really uncomfortable angle the clutch pedal is at on those cars.
